• Make Every Day a Mother’s Day!

Date: 2012.05.14 | Category: Being a Woman, Taking care of self | Response: 0

Happy day after Mother’s Day! I hope you had a relaxing day, full of joy and appreciation, moments to yourself and enjoyable time with family!

After talking with other moms about how they allowed themselves to take time for themselves, I woke this morning wondering why we only get one day…why can’t we find moments EVERY day to celebrate ourselves and all we do? Because let’s face it, we do ALOT! EVERY day. And I don’t know about you, but I’m not waiting another 365 days to sit with a book, or sleep in or renew my passion for life.

So I say make today another Happy Mother’s Day! And find time again tomorrow…and the next day…even if it’s only ten minutes.

Here are some reminders on how to do that:
    1. Take time out for you
    2. Give yourself permission to play
    3. Exercise as a way of life
    4. Seek to be happy now, don’t wait because you think you will have more free time in 3 months, 2 years or 5 years…Create a life of happiness starting today
    5. Surround yourself with people who are positive and inspiring
    6. It’s fun to be around kids, but you need adult time too
    7. When you do have free time, use it wisely; don’t spend it doing chores. Sit back and read a magazine, take a bubble bath and RELAX
    8. Start saving in a JOY FUND. Put a little away each month for a fun trip, massage or a new pair of shoes
    9. DREAM BIG!  Have the courage and motivation  to go after your goals and dreams
    10. Enjoy all the smooches, hugs and loves from your children and family

We, as Mothers hold up the world!  We deserve more than one day to relax and do whatever we want to do!  Guilt free!  Enjoy!

  • Your Inner Voice

Date: 2012.03.21 | Category: Living Your Best Life, Taking care of self | Response: 0

The voice within us… you know the one. It gives you guidance and direction? Leads you toward your purpose; helps you fulfill your dreams. You hear that voice often right?  Or is your life so busy that you cannot hear it?  Are you so surrounded by noise and brain clutter that your purpose in life and your dreams also seem at such a far off, distant whisper that you can barely recognize them?

It is never too late to put the focus back on us.  Never too late to reinvent yourself, learn new things, have new experiences and be truly deeply satisfyingly happy.  Not superficially happy because you bought a new car or went shopping.  I mean really glowing from the inside so that your eyes shine and your face hurts from smiling so much.

    What do you want?

    Where is your place?

    What brings you true joy?

It is different for each one of us. I can only offer suggestions and encourage you to try to slow your life down.  Oh, I hear the excuses… well if you can give me another hour in the day, I might just attend that group of yours.  Well I can do that.  I can give you a free hour in your day.

    Ready?

Start saying no.  Say no to all the other stuff you do that sucks the joy out of you…things you do out of guilt or obligation. Say no and you just bought yourself a free hour and half for YOU to attend my group, designed for women looking to ignite the fire in their soul and to start saying YES to themselves and their spirit.  Hearing that inner voice again can rejuvenate you and put a spring in your step.

It can make you truly shine.

  • Go Where You Need to Be

Date: 2012.02.25 | Category: Taking care of self | Response: 0

Where is it you need to be?

Do you need Faith?  This week go to your worship service.

Do you need a good sweat?  Go to your gym or join one.

Is it solace you need?  Go for a hike in the woods minus the IPOD and cell phone.  Just you and your thoughts.

Go where you need to be.

Not where people tell you to go.  Not a place that is negative.  Nor a place you leave frustrated and unhappy.

Go to that place of excitement, joy and happiness.

Don’t go by intimidation or guilt.

Go where your heart is telling you to go.  For each one of us needing comfort and love, it is a different place.

Walk in the woods.  Laughter with friends.  Passion with your soul mate.  Joy with your children.  Deep conversation with God.

Go where your soul aches to go.  Only you know that place.  Give yourself permission to go there.  Wherever it is.  Just go.

  • Sweat it Out

    Date: 2012.02.03 | Category: Stress | Response: 0

Are you stressed?  Do you carry with you tension and negative feelings?  Here’s a tip….Exercise.  All the reading I have been doing lately points to the same conclusion: exercise needs to be a part of your lifestyle.  Not convinced?  Keep reading…

    • Exercise reduces feelings of anxiety and stress
    • New research shows exercise can reduce future stress

“The data suggest that people who exercise in the morning, for example, will have less of an increase in blood pressure and less of a feeling of stress if they are in a traffic jam on their way to work.” (Taken from USA weekend paper, 2012, quotes by John Bartholomew, Professor of Kinesiology and health Ed at U of Texas-Austin). Exercise also…

    • Releases endorphins in your bloodstream creating a sense of well-being
    • Decreases muscle tension
    • Rids your body of toxins
    • Increases alpha wave activity in the brain, allowing you to clear your mind
    • Strengthens heart and lungs
    • Exercise is a building block to overall hardiness
    • “Not only does physical fitness produce stress resilience, but fit individuals are better able to preserve their cognitive functions.”(Lilly Mujica-Parodi, Stony Brook U)

Join a gym.  Buy a treadmill.  Join a Boot Camp class.  Try a Zumba class.  Go for a walk in the woods.  Learn how to ski.  Go for a swim at the YMCA.  Snowshoe.  Jump rope.  Ride your bike.  Do some type of physical activity and make it a part of your everyday life.

The benefits?  A stronger, healthier, less stressed you.

  • It’s All in the Company You Keep

    Date: 2011.11.13 | Category: Friends | Response: 0

Friends, wonderful friends!  They uplift, console, and understand you.  They add joy to your life and give you confidence to take the risk of making your dreams come true.  They offer a softer place to land when life throws you unexpected curve balls.  When you leave the company of such friends you feel full and content.  Your soul has been nourished, even if it was just a quick hour and a hot cup of coffee.  My day was once made lighter and more joyful after an unexpected hug from a friend in the parking lot of my daughter’s daycare.  It was one of those warm embraces that said “I am here with you at all times…keep going.”

Who shines their light on your life?  Who do you call when you have exciting news to share?  Who are your most cherished friends?

My favorite inspirational speaker Dr. Wayne Dyer says,” Choose to be in close proximity to people who are empowering, who appeal to your sense of connection to intention, who see the greatness in you, who feel connected to God, and who live a life that gives evidence that spirit has found celebration through them.”

    Go out and LAUGH

    Sit together and TELL STORIES

Eat dinner and SUPPORT EACH OTHER

Sip tea and CRY (let it all out, you are in good company)

Go for a walk and DREAM BIG

Talk on the phone and GET INSPIRED

Hug for an hour and BE HELD

Share your accomplishments and SHARE THE JOY

It’s all in the company you keep.
